Churchill War Rooms, London

4.7
At Churchill War Rooms, see how Winston Churchill and his inner circle directed the British war effort from this bunker complex. In the Cabinet War Rooms, which served as Churchill's living quarters, look for the chair--with scratch marks on its arms--in which Sir Winston sat while strategizing with his closest advisers. The books, color-coded telephones, and documents on desks in the Map Room remain just as they were when the bunker emptied on August 16, 1945. Moving on to the Churchill Room, see where Churchill slept while in the bunker. In the Churchill Museum, learn all about the life of the leader who guided Britain through one of the most trying periods of its history. The site does not have a cloakroom, so expect to carry or wear whatever you bring with you. • Who doesn't find Winston Churchill interesting? The War Rooms are an incredible insight into the history of the second world war and the British command center during that time.  more »
  • Very atmospheric, having hardly changed in nearly 80 years. The adjoining rooms with the Churchill exhibition are also packed with archives and information about his life.  more »

  • Loved it. Spent 3 and a half hours here. Adult ticket £22 on door, and includes free audio guide (29 clearly signposted and very informative stops as part of this). Completely worth it. Can also buy a guidebook for an additional £5 (didn't so can't comment). Incredibly informative. So much of it has been preserved or brilliantly restored. Varied sections too, so some items are interactive, whilst there are longer videos with seating provided at others. My one recommendation is to eat shortly before entering as you'll likely be there so long you'll want to eat again before leaving. Also the cafe only had a few pricey snacks when I passed through.
  • So much information! Nicely curated and audio guides are great. Would recommend booking in advance, however still be prepared to stand in a queue even if you do have priority tickets. Tickets seemed a bit pricey at first, but it is actually really good value for money given how much there is actually to see. The museum also has an extensive bit on Churchill's whole life and journey into politics. Definitely worth a visit.
