Explore hidden gems such as Allan Bank and Kendal Castle. Cockermouth is an ancient market town and civil parish in the Borough of Allerdale in Cumbria, England, so named because it is at the confluence of the River Cocker as it flows into the River Derwent. Visit Wordsworth House and Garden and Hardknott Roman Fort for their historical value. Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Buttermere and Keswick Railway Path. Get out of town with these interesting Cockermouth side-trips: Boot (St Catherine's Chruch & Eskdale Mill), Seascale Beach (in Seascale) and Castlerigg Stone Circle (in Castlerigg). The adventure continues: tour the pleasant surroundings at Hope Park, get engrossed in the history at Keswick Museum, examine the collection at J.B.Banks and Son Ltd, and get outside with Walla Crag.
