Wat Pho, Bangkok

4.6
#1 of 7,671 in Things to do in Thailand
Visit Wat Pho, one of the six main Buddhist temples in Thailand. Admire the 46 m (151 ft) long Buddha statue and its memorable pose, and explore the wide range of temple buildings displaying rich and intricate religious designs and a history dating back to the 16th century. Vital to the spiritual and architectural heritage of the city and the country at large, the site houses the largest collection of Buddha depictions in Thailand. Said to be the first public university in the nation, the temple also has an illustrious educational history and still runs courses on traditional Thai massage and medicine. • Had a very nice visit to this temple. Paid for a tour guide as soon as we got in the gate and it was really worth it.  more »
  • Like every other temple in Bangkok, they get a lot of people, specially on the weekends. This place is very nice to view and it can be seen relatively fast, so you can see a few on the same day. The b...  more »

  • Visited the temple on a day trip, very busy area. To get into the temple is a long wait, the line to get your tickets takes forever as there is truly no line system in place. There is signs everywhere about pick pockets which makes you very nervous. After purchasing your tickets, you walk around all the interesting areas. To enter the Temple you have to remove your shoes. It is insanely humid and hot in the temple, i recommend you have plenty of water with you. Also you must be properly covered, no shorts allowed. The architectural beauty of this place will have you in awe, simply amazing. The Reclining Buddha stretches the full length of the temple. As you enter and walk around the back, you have the opportunity of viewing the full body. A must see if you are in the area.
  • Truly incredible. An absolute must-see if you're in Bangkok. It's probably worth taking a tour for proper information on what you're looking at, I would've been pretty lost otherwise. To be honest I'm not sure what the admission was but the cultural learning experience was enough for a 5 star rating, as were the breathtaking structures. I was fortunate enough to go during a full moon so there was some extra action. Got some awesome audio of monks chanting. Wear easily removable shoes. Free bottle of water with admission!
  • Beautiful temple for stunning photos. Wear comfortable shoes as you will walk a lot. Make sure that you visit in the morning when not so hot. There is a great variety of street food outside. I found it very useful to have a knowledgeable guide to explain the significance of small things that a foreigner would usually miss.
  • A large Buddhist temple complex what has a very big reclining Buddha statue was made of gold in its center. You can stay here all day, it takes more than an hour to visit and walk around that statue. There is a lot of scenery, a massage center and a primary school in this area. That is the place what you must see when you travel to Bangkok.
  • Absolutely the best experience, 100 bath and I got free water, FREE AMAZING LUNCH (with seconds, and thirds!) free flavoured beverages, magnificent Thai art, craftsmanship, beauty. THE BEST! Don't waste hours among crowds and expensive fee at grand palace, you can not even get in there.
